Undoing the Last Import

Changed your mind about an import? Undo Last Import takes it back: the items it brought in go, and the items it put in the Bin come back. It works on the last import only, and only for a while: see How long you can undo.

Step by step

While the last import can be undone, the Info page shows Undo Last Import under Import, with what it would undo, for example 412 items from 1Password, 17 Oct 2026.

  1. Tap Undo Last Import on the Info page.
  2. Undo the Last Import? says everything the undo will do, as your items stand now.
  3. Tap Undo Import, and confirm with Face ID or Touch ID.
  4. A bar shows the undo, Undoing the last import. Afterwards Info says, beside Import, how many items were removed and how many brought back.
  1. Click Undo Last Import on the Info page.
  2. Undo the Last Import? appears in its place, and says everything the undo will do, as your items stand now.
  3. Click Undo Import, and confirm with Touch ID, or your Mac's password where Touch ID can't be used.
  4. A bar shows the undo, Undoing the last import. Afterwards Info says, beside Import, how many items were removed and how many brought back.

What it takes back, and what it leaves

The undo… What that means
Removes the items this import added Every one still here, the Bin's among them, even those you have changed since. The question says how many have changed.
Brings back the items it put in the Bin After an import with Delete all existing, your earlier items come back out of the Bin, as they were. They come back first, so a problem part of the way never leaves you with less than the import found.
Removes the templates it made The new templates made on the Types to templates step.
Removes the tag it made The import's own tag, and any other tag it made that nothing else uses.

It leaves alone:

  • Merges you saved on the import's Possible Duplicates step. A merge updates your own item when you save it, and the screen says so at the time: This can't be undone, even by Undo Last Import.
  • Items the import put in the Bin that are no longer there, because you brought them back yourself. The question says how many, and that they stay as they are.
  • Everything you did not get from the import: items you added or changed by hand, other imports, your settings.

If a change can't be made, it is passed over, and the rest goes ahead.

From either device

Every item an import writes carries the import's own mark, and so does every item it puts in the Bin. With Sync via iCloud Keychain on, the record of the last import syncs too, so you can import on your Mac and undo it on your iPhone, or the other way round. The question then adds Sync via iCloud Keychain is on, so your other devices change too.

How long you can undo

Undo Last Import is offered until the first of these:

  • You start another import. Choosing a file for a new import accepts the last one: it can no longer be undone, on any device.
  • You restore a backup, or use Delete All Data.
  • The days run out. The undo lasts as many days after the import as Days in the Bin is set to in Settings (30 to start, and 30 if it is set to 0).
  • The import's Bin is emptied. See below.

It ends with the import's Bin

An import with Delete all existing puts your earlier items in the Bin, and an undo brings them back from there. So the moment any one of those items is deleted for good, the undo ends, on every device, because it could only take away what came in with nothing to put back in its place. That happens when:

  • the item's days in the Bin are over;
  • you use Empty the Bin, or delete the item for good from the Bin yourself;
  • Days in the Bin is 0, which deletes the earlier items for good at once. An import with Delete all existing then can't be undone at all: the Keep or Delete step says your items are deleted for good.

Items you put in the Bin by hand, or that another import put there, make no difference. Nor does an item you bring back out of the Bin.

An import with Keep all puts nothing in the Bin, so it stays undoable for the whole time.

See The Archive and the Bin for Days in the Bin and Empty the Bin.

An import that stopped part of the way

If Private Passwords was closed while an import was being written, the next time it opens it says An Import Stopped Part of the Way. Undo What It Did undoes it there and then, as Undo Last Import would. Finish the Import writes the rest instead.
